What's the Times to do? Well, based on the month of April, it looks like they've got a few tactics. I actually don't think we know anyone who met analog. Reporter: But wasn't it difficult, having to admit to your family and friends that you met on the Internet?īride: My mom makes $75 an hour spamming affiliate marketing links into comment sections.īride: Everyone's really happy. We were matched on 97 levels of compatibility, so we got along great from the start. Reporter: Wait, so - was there ever a moment where the relationship seemed in doubt? Any races to the airport to try to stop her from boarding a plane? I can just imagine two people sitting down with a Times reporter:īride: And we agreed to meet for dinner, and we just hit it off - all those e-mails, it was like, I didn't have to go through all the usual boring chitchat. That, combined with a lot of people wookin' pa nub online actually being serious about settling down, removes some of the drama from the equation. You spend so much time stalking profiles and then sending witty e-mails back and forth to your "matches" that, if things go as planned, by the time you actually meet in person you feel like you're just two old compatible souls. One of the things that makes meeting via the Internet so great is also what makes the resulting unions so difficult for the people trying to seek out the dramatic narrative. If I were a wedding section editor, though, I might be freaking out. These days it's not just that pairs people up, either: It's things like "Oh, well, he followed me on Tumblr for months" or "We both commented on the same blog." As someone who has long made friends (and "friends") online, I fully support this. It's just that it can be hard when they're one of the rapidly growing numbers of happy couples who have met online. It's not that people don't want to tell the story of how they got together - they do. You're either giving someone an opportunity to happily babble on cue, or you're making them sigh with a heavy look that says here we go again. These days, asking two lovebirds an innocent question like "So, how did you two meet?" can be as fraught as asking a college senior what they'll be up to next year. Telegram has high adoption rates in several countries with poor track records for freedom of expression. The German government’s attempts to fine Telegram over a lack of moderation for illegal content ran into a dead-end at an empty Telegram office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He fled Russia in 2014 after refusing to cooperate with demands from the Kremlin after that country’s annexation of Crimea. In fact, the 37-year-old Pavel Durov, with an estimated net worth of $15 billion, has taken steps demonstrating his commitment to freedom from government intrusion. Telegram’s security model, warns the Electronic Frontier Foundation, “requires users to place a great deal of trust in Telegram’s ability to protect user data.” “So far, this has never happened.” Others are more cautious. “If Telegram receives a court order that confirms you’re a terror suspect, we may disclose your IP address and phone number to the relevant authorities,” the company’s privacy policy reads. In keeping with this philosophy, the company says it does not share user data with governments unless compelled. This is evident on its FAQ page, where it states: “If criticizing the government is illegal in some country, Telegram won’t be a part of such politically motivated censorship.” Telegram also distinguishes itself from other social or messaging platforms with its vigorous privacy protection and free speech policies. Its appeal: a reputation for privacy in communications and commerce. Telegram 101įounded in 2013 by Pavel and Nikolai Durov, the two Russian brothers behind Facebook-lookalike VKontakte, Telegram boasted more than 550 million users worldwide as of January 2022. But even before that, the app had grown in popularity among those seeking anonymous communications free from government censorship, and among the neo-Nazis, Islamic State supporters, and drug traffickers who found fertile ground for their activities on the platform.ĭespite - or because of - this somewhat dubious reputation, Telegram can also be an invaluable research tool, allowing journalists to mine information and investigate groups of people whose content is otherwise banned or limited on other social networks (often for violating terms of use or hate speech laws). As one of the few social media platforms still available inside Russia and a key conduit for reporting from war-torn Ukraine, Telegram’s global profile has greatly increased in recent months. “purple” tier, due to a slow response to the virus during summer reopenings. This is a really cool building location simply because it sits in the middle of a lake. It's the only building that's in the water.Īside from being close to a trader, this locale is also set near two caves and several useful POIs. Both islands spawn zombies, but you may be able to avoid horde activity by swimming to the little boathouse south of the big isle. Located at the northwest corner of the map (1472W 714N), this set of islands presents a great building opportunity without straying far from a trader. There aren't many horror movies that take place on islands, right? … RIGHT? Islands in the… River (Best for Living Your Island Dreams) How to get to the steel water tower and make the most of this amazing spot. Strengthen the fence, add some spikes, you'll be ready to survive the first handful of Hordes and then some. Earn a bike from early jobs and you're set for a while.Easily upgraded to meet your needs. Diersville is right there, with a trader immediately west of your location (across the river). It's steel, which helps you survive horde nights long before you can make the stuff. It's very cool, though very small compared to the bases I'm used to. It has been a fantastic location, and I don't have far to run to get to a trader. I beefed up the fence with railings, I'm building a moat. Done.įor the record, I'm using this location as a base while running a knife build. Just raid Diersville's vending machines and street lights. The main challenge with this location is getting the early steel to repair the tower-which won't matter much the first few horde nights, but will definitely become an issue eventually. This site is located just below Diersville. It doesn't require much work to prepare it for early hordes: just need to break the ground beneath the ladder so zombies can't climb it. Located at 1092 E, 371 N, this convenient water tower is surrounded by a chain link fence and built from steel. That sudden stop at the bottom kinda hurts. Steel Water Tower (Best for Horde Nights) So once again I'm happy you are enjoying the base concept and enjoying 7D2D. Do consider the fact that my game stage is maxed out. It went ok, but I had plenty of damage to contend with. I did put a video out on YouTube of a base in steel doing a 7777-day horde. Also, there have been problems with zombies after being shot standing up and walking down the runway. Dogs are a problem with bottlenecking as you stated. Also did you make the defense base floor height and bottom of runway at least 6 high? 5 or lower will produce more damage being done. I hope that the first upgraded key points were the bottom 3 rows of your defense tower and the narrow wedge blocks in the entrance way. So, I put in a stairway, it helps to slow zombies down some, and no massive damage. I have one that I designed with a pit with no exit, massive damage. Great game play!! And I'm happy you are enjoying the design concept. Rotor sorry I didn't see your 2 posts until today! First off, I'M IMPRESSED THAT YOU HAVE DONE THIS IN COBBLESTONE AND HAD SUCCESS DEFEATING A 98 NIGHT HORDE! Can't shoot fast enough to kill the horde before 4am. The base will do until I can get a blade trap going. I upgraded some key points with concrete and base fared much better. Perhaps you can test your design with full horde night day 100 or later and see if it fairs better than mine. Need one mroe point to be able to craft the mixer, so almost there. Overall I like the design and just need to plate more hehe, and make some concrete :). Again w/o concrete and 100% damage I think i would have lost both, and the ensuing bottleneck would have cost more damage to the tower. The dogs could not negotiate the corridor so they beat on the bigger of the wedges and lost one. The headshot corridor did work flawlessly, except for a worker did manage to make the jump heh. I have a few changes to make to try and keep the Zs from the main tower, or atleast less attention upon it. I did have some wasted time due to a personal error which may have allowed the Zs more time to beat on the tower. I think without concrete and 100% damage I might have been in peril. However, even with zombie block damage at 25% a plated and non plated block fell at the main tower lower forward corner. Some added mods like a fall pit and rounded corners (which unfortunatly those conners cannot be plated),and I didnt have time to line the pit with spikes. Hello, I wanted to let you know that I tried your base. Elk are most active in the early mornings and late afternoons. Planning for a successful photo shoot during the elk rut is pretty straightforward but here are some tips to improve your chances of capturing your own spittle photo.ġ. Bull elk, especially the younger bulls that are not quite mature enough to participate in the mating, will spar almost anywhere during the rut season, like these two in Lake Estes.(Dawn Wilson Photography) Bulls will collect cows to form harems during the rut, and will fiercely defend the girls from other males. Here they will gather to find their mates - the cows choose which bull she will allow to mate with her - before moving to even lower elevations in late October or early November for the winter. Late each August, as the tundra starts to see its first coatings of frost, the elk herds start to move out of the high country and back down into the valleys and meadows. Elk are one of those species that put on quite the show during the rut. It only happens once a year for these mammals and, depending on the species, can be quite animated and dramatic. Rut is a term that describes a mating season, particularly for ruminant mammals, like deer, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, moose and elk. (Some blocks of time during the peak of the elk rut in September were sold out within minutes of going on sale, and the recent release of October dates sold out just as quickly for the first week of October.) 1 for the September timeframe, it looks like the crowds will be present yet again this year. Many nature lovers with shutter-finger syndrome (a non-fatal obsessive need to press that camera shutter button at the sight of birds, megafauna and/or small mammals) arrive in the valleys around Estes Park in the fall to witness this unique behavior of the animal kingdom.īased on how quickly the early morning timed-entry reservations for the Bear Lake Corridor in Rocky Mountain National Park sold out on Aug. Rut season has arrived and that means lots of photos with steamy breath, lip curls, rattling antlers, sparring matches, powerful bugles with spittle projecting from a bull’s mouth, frosted antlers, snow-covered meadows full of elk and many other photo-worthy scenarios.Īnd it isn’t just local photographers that go ga-ga over photos during the elk rut season. For many local wildlife photographers, September marks one of the best times of year to be in Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park. This video captures elk during their fall mating ritual called the “rut.” This rite of autumn attracts thousands of visitors to Colorado each year, generating millions of dollars to the state’s economy. It is that time of year again. Because CPW does not receive general tax dollars, hunters fund conservation programs for elk and other species throughout Colorado. From these meager transplants, and through decades of conservation programs, elk populations have soared to the abundant herds for which Colorado is now famous.ĬPW, in cooperation with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and other conservation groups, continues to conduct research, protect key winter range and migration corridors and improve habitat to ensure Colorado’s elk herds remain abundant for future generations. Sportsmen also called for regulated hunting seasons to protect and manage elk populations. The elk were transported and released in Idaho Springs and in the Greenhorn Mountains in Pueblo County. The elk’s dramatic demise was attributed to unregulated market-hunting.Ī century ago, Colorado Parks and Wildlife imported 350 elk from Wyoming to re-establish dwindling herds. But did you know that elk were near extinction at the turn of the century? In fact, fewer than 1,000 elk remained in Colorado during the early 1900s. After all, Colorado is home to nearly 280,000 animals - the largest elk population in North America. Living in Colorado, it’s easy to take for granted our enormous elk herds. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Once you’re done spending your mana, you can attack or hit a button to come back into real-time, and continue the fight using the cards you’ve summoned into existence. This frozen time allows you to plan, and is where the “turn-based” part comes in. These cards might give you a sword, or a bow and arrow, or even a bomb you can place then shoot to detonate. When you have rolled the dice, time freezes so you can pick the cards you want to play. As you progress you also collect cards and these have a mana value. When you roll Dicey, you’ll get a random number from 1 to 6 (since it’s a dice roll) which will give you that 1 to 6 in usable “mana” form. Your pal “Dicey” picks up this energy and stores it until you have enough to roll him. Playing as “Even” you only have a slingshot, which you can fire at glowing blue spots on your foes to make them drop energy. It’s sort of turn-based but also real-time and… I’m not helping the confusion, am I? Let’s break this down, then. Truth be told, this game could really use a demo for people to get the feel of the battles. But after playing it, I’m hooked on the world and its art, and that unique combat. After sitting through a presentation for the game, I still didn’t feel as though I had a handle on what was actually going on. Lost in Random (Image: EA, Zoink Games, 2021)Ĭonfused? Yeah, I don’t blame you. But no, while there are elements from games you’ve played before, the key component here is the titular “random” nature, and the fact you meet a friend early on who is an actual dice that rides on your back and gives you powers. Upon first glance you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a fairly standard action-adventure game with some hack ‘n’ slash elements, albeit one with a gorgeous art style. So let’s start with the most exciting aspect: combat.
